After reading countless blogs and after watching several make-up aficionados (I hate the word gurus) on YouTube raving about this gel eyeliner in a pencil format I had to give it a go.
So, a few weeks later and I received my order from Avon.
I ordered 4!
They were so cheap ( introductory offer at £3) and because the Avon online purchasing process is CRAP I decided to get a few extra back ups in case they were as good as people said.
This is the liner.
I was so exited to have a GEL eyeliner in a pencil format. I could put in my bag and I could be ready to go at any time anywhere. I wouldn't need a pot AND a brush to apply it.
I loved the concept.
My initial reaction was to swatch it on my hand.
It's THE backest black eyeliner I have ever seen.
I compared it with Smolder by Mac which was my blackest black eye liner.
As you can see the Avon eyeliner is super black and creamy.
This swatch kept me smiling for a while.
I waited a few moments and tried to rub it off and it didn't budge at all!
I tried really hard and it was still there.
I was smiling even more by now!
Until I did the test on my eyes that is.
Let's see why.
This is what the eyeliner looks like just after application:
I applied it on my upper and bottom waterline just once.
I did not set it with e/s this time.
All good so far.
3 hours later.
It started to fail.
Look at how less intense and patchy the water line looks.
I also get a bit of a mess near the tear duct. I hate that.
4.5 hours later and it was even worse.
See how the liner transferred on my left eye.
A close up at the disaster.
I'm pulling down my eye a little bit so that you can see how the liner gets into the fine lines.
So...I guess these photos speak for themselves.
It's a good idea and concept but I don't think it's worth the hype.
It's not a miracle product and it doesn't set that well (on the waterline).
The swatches on the had are amazing and they will sell the product but the actual use on the waterline is not great. I think someone told the Pixiwoos that this product is not good for waterline use for people who use contact lenses and I totally disagree. I use contact lenses and this product was no different from any other Kohl eyeliner. You always get a bit of transfer on the lenses whatever you're using. It's the way it is due to the texture of the lenses.
HOWEVER, the positive thing is that the liner performs much better when used as a normal liner on the lid.
It sets better and you don't get transfers.
Another good and very important point is that it's the blackest back eyeliner around and it has even been successfully compared to the Aqua colour eyeliner by Make Up For Ever.
- It's the best black eyeliner around
-It's super creamy (it's a gel formula)
-It brilliant for the lid
-Handy packaging and presentation
-A pain to purchase online.
-Not brilliant for waterline use (my main reason for buying it)
-Not smudge proof (on waterline)
-Not worth the hype!
I will use them all up but I won't be repurchasing it.
I guess the other 3 will keep me going for a while anyway.
I hope this was helpful.
